PAWchitecture Greenville launches community auction to benefit Greenville County Animal Care

Design-build competition featuring local architects and designers displays homes in Downtown Greenville

Greenville, South Carolina – October 12, 2023PAWchitecture Greenville, the design-build competition spearheaded by AIA Greenville benefitting Greenville County Animal Care’s Safety Net Foster Program, announced today that five of its one-of-a kind dog houses and cat condos created by local architecture firms are available for bid in an online community auction.

Pet houses will be displayed on Noma Square during Fall for Greenville on October 14, then moved inside the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Downtown Greenville from October 15 – 30. Proceeds from the auction will be presented to Greenville County Animal Care at a celebration event in November.

“PAWchitecture Greenville has provided these talented architects with an outlet to explore their creative abilities, all while helping families and pets in need,” said Catherine Knight, design leader with A M King and past president of AIA Greenville. “Each team has worked tremendously hard to construct unique and high-quality homes, and we are excited to display them homes to the community.”

The competition brings together architects, designers, and builders to create high design dog houses and cat condos for bid. Local architecture firms A M King, Craig Gaulden Davis + Triangle Construction Co, Inc., Fathom Firm + The Heirloom Companies, KEEL Concepts, and McMillan Pazdan Smith have assembled teams to participate in the competition.

Miami-based Nichols Architects brought the idea to Greenville after participating in PAWchitecture through the Miami Center for Architecture & Design in partnership with the Miami Chapter of AIA.

“Through our work in South Carolina, we’ve learned that Greenville is an energetic, generous, pet-loving community,” said Igor Reyes, partner at Nichols Architects. “The project presents architects with a whole new realm of challenges and considerations, and we are excited to see what these teams have come up with, and how the Greenville community will come together to support Greenville County Animal Care.”

“We are so grateful AIA Greenville, Nichols Architects, the contestants, and sponsors for their dedication and support through this incredible initiative,” said Paula Church, Community Relations Coordinator at Greenville County Animal Care. “The funds raised through this project will help us continue to care for pets, keep families together during unexpected crisis, and increase resources accessibility to affordable pet housing.”
