YMCA of Greenville announces today that it has raised a record-breaking $1,205,982 for its annual scholarship campaign, making it the largest annual campaign total of any YMCA in the state of South Carolina. Over the past ten years, the YMCA of Greenville has raised $8,864,239 for the annual campaign, putting 100 percent of those funds back into the community through scholarships so that anyone who wants to participate in the Y’s programs or services is able to, regardless of their ability to pay.
“We are thrilled that with the help of our 300 volunteer fundraisers led by the Y’s team, we were able to exceed our 2018 annual campaign goal,” said Brian Hamby, annual campaign chairman. “Through the funds raised, the Y can provide more than 8,500 individuals and families scholarships, enabling them to be healthier in spirit, mind and body. This helps to strengthen the wellness of our community, increase the diversity of our relationships, and most importantly, ensures that the Y is open for all.”
“We are so thankful for each and every donor,” said Scot Baddley, president and CEO, YMCA of Greenville. “Now, we are able to offer more children a safe and nurturing environment in afterschool, daycamp, and summer resident camps where they can learn skills and make new friends. More people suffering from Parkinson’s and hypertension can participate in our evidence-based wellness programs to gain health and quality of life back. And, more teens can participate in our statewide Youth in Government program to learn more about democracy, leadership and civil discourse.”
One hundred percent of the funds raised for the annual campaign are used in Greenville County, on a sliding scale basis, to offer financial assistance for YMCA memberships and programs like Wellness Works – Parkinson’s, after-school care, summer day camp, swim lessons, youth sports, Blood Pressure Monitoring program, and summer overnight camp at the Y Camp Greenville.
