McKibbon Hospitality Announces Independent Rooftop Bar and Lounge Concept for Uptown Charlotte Hotel Tower

February 7, 2018

McKibbon Hospitality today announced that the rooftop bar and lounge at the top of its AC Hotel and Residence Inn Charlotte City Center will be named Nuvole Rooftop TwentyTwo. Situated twenty-two stories into the Charlotte skyline, the new concept will offer locally and regionally-inspired small plates and entrees, handcrafted cocktails, fine wine and craft beer.

McKibbon Hospitality has hired Peter Pollay to consult on the food and beverage for Nuvole Rooftop TwentyTwo. Peter and his wife Martha are the founders of Mandara Hospitality Group in Asheville, NC, where they own and operate Posana restaurant. Peter serves as executive chef of Posana and was the food and beverage consultant for Capella on 9 at McKibbon’s AC Hotel Asheville Downtown.

“We are excited to combine the expertise of McKibbon’s food and beverage team and Peter Pollay to launch an exciting new rooftop concept in Uptown Charlotte,” said Karl Oates, vice president of lifestyle hotels for McKibbon Hospitality. “Nuvole Rooftop TwentyTwo will provide a carefully curated experience for locals and visitors to enjoy Uptown Charlotte in a completely new way.”

McKibbon is partnering with Charlotte-based Vision Ventures on the hotel tower. With strong knowledge of the local market, Vision Ventures is also contributing to the experience guests will have at Nuvole Rooftop TwentyTwo. According to Vision Ventures Vice President of Development Gregg McAllister, “By combining our local market expertise with McKibbon’s first-class approach to hospitality, we’re pleased to help create a one-of-a-kind new rooftop experience for Charlotte.”

Nuvole, pronounced new-vo-lay, means “cloud” in Italian and speaks to the experience guests will have as they dine just beneath the clouds. The name also speaks to the “change in atmosphere” they will experience when visiting the rooftop bar and lounge, where every detail will be curated in the here and now, inviting them to be present and connect with others. Guests can enjoy a variety of seating options including a sleek bar, indoor and outdoor tables, and soft seating. The bar and lounge will feature local musicians each weekend and a collection of local artwork, which was selected by John McKibbon, chairman of McKibbon Hospitality, and Liz L. Barr, owner of Art Resources in Asheville.

The Nuvole Rooftop TwentyTwo menu will include a variety of meat and seafood dishes and lighter fare such as small plates and salads. Menu items will include a Carolina Bison Tartare; a Seafood Tower with NC shrimp, Cold Water Lobster, Oysters and King Crab; a Caesar Crudité Salad; and Smoked Pork Belly Mac and Cheese. The bar and lounge will be managed by Noah Sheer, who has worked in food and beverage for several fine dining restaurants at the Biltmore Estate, Omni Grove Park Inn, and Old Village Post House.

The twenty-second floor will also include a 1,350 square-foot Penthouse Suite available for rent to visitors and locals through McKibbon Hospitality. The Penthouse Suite will offer 2 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, high-end finishes, and outstanding views of Charlotte. In total, the AC Hotel and Residence Inn Charlotte City Center tower will add 300 rooms to Uptown Charlotte’s hotel inventory.
